West metro notebook: Ex-DeLaSalle football coach hired in North Carolina

Sean McMenomy, who resigned as the football coach at DeLaSalle in March, has accepted a job in Hudson, N.C.

Sean McMenomy, who resigned as the football coach at DeLaSalle in March, has accepted the head coaching position at South Caldwell High School in Hudson, N.C. McMenomy, a former University of Minnesota defensive back, compiled a 62-18 record in seven seasons at DeLaSalle.

South Caldwell finished 11-3 in 2015, losing in the third round of North Carolina’s Class 4A state playoffs, and has compiled a 57-19 record over the past five seasons.

Recruiting trail

• Minnetonka senior guard Amar Miller has committed to play basketball at Mineral Area College, a junior college in Park Hills, Mo., south of St. Louis. Miller averaged 23.1 points and 6.5 assists per game this season. Mineral Area College, nestled in the Missouri Ozarks, finished the season 25-6 and was ranked No. 13 nationally among junior colleges.

• Eric Wilson, a 6-4, 280-pound junior offensive guard from Benilde-St. Margaret’s, has received 17 offers from Division I colleges, including eight from teams in the Ivy League: Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, Penn, Princeton and Yale. Wilson has also received offers from Minnesota, Colorado, Iowa State, New Mexico, Western Michigan and Wyoming, among others.

• Cooper junior offensive lineman Eric Abojei’s profile is on the rise. The 6-5, 310-pound Abojei has offers from Minnesota and Iowa State. Others reportedly interested include Iowa, Michigan and Wisconsin.

• Eden Prairie’s J.J. Drew, a 6-6, 300-pound junior offensive lineman, recently received offers from Cornell and Miami (Ohio). Minnesota, Oklahoma State and Wyoming are also interested.
